La meraviglia e il dubbio (1990 - 1992)
The characters in the first part are adapted from Greek mythology:
Echo and Narcissus are seen as two irreconcilable aspects of love. Echo
is the key figure in the drama thanks to the sincerity of her feelings,
Narcissus, in contrast, represents indifference, the anti-love. The two
protagonists are set against a chorus of young women, all of them
attracted by the beauty of Narcissus and all of them rejected by him.
In
the second part, the myth is set in vaguely medieval surroundings with
the Knight as the central character. His restlessness and thirst for
knowledge, his inability to surrender and yearning to return, define
his character. He endures the struggles and weariness of his existence
in a dreamy haze from which only the chorus of the fairies can wake him.
